09 Jan Singing into the new year
As we welcome a brand new year ahead, we’re looking forward to singing with you and beginning our winter choir season this week. We can’t wait to share a new collection of songs, sourced from near and far, from the local to the global. At Sing for Joy, we believe that singing is our birthright, and that all people have the ability to make beautiful and meaningful sound together. This is why we don’t have auditions, and why we welcome every voice, regardless of musical experience. And you simply won’t believe the magic that happens when we join our voices in song…
What is Sing for Joy?
Sing for Joy is an all-inclusive, multi-cultural community choir in the City of Toronto, that gathers each week for the pure joy of singing together. We welcome all voices, and require no singing experience ~ just a heartfelt desire to sing with others in harmony. We sing for the pleasure and delight it gives us, in an atmosphere that is fun, relaxed, and accepting. We have two locations to choose from, in the east and west parts of Toronto.
Sing for Joy is unique from traditional choirs in that we don’t use sheet music or written words. Our songs are learned in the oral tradition of call-and-response, drawing from many cultures. They reflect a diversity of roots, origins, and inspirations, bringing us home to our most original ways of being together in community. We choose songs that you can weave into the rhythm of your daily life, and take home to share with your loved ones.
Sing for Joy is a member of the Ubuntu Choir Network, a global community of choirs who believe that the joy of singing is a universal birthright, and that together, regardless of musical background, we can help improve the world by joining voices in song. Sing for Joy is the first Ubuntu Choir in the city of Toronto, joining over 50 Ubuntu Choirs across Canada and the United States.
Join us for our 10-week choir season starting next week. With two locations to choose from, in the east and west parts of Toronto. New to group singing? No problem! Drop in for a session to give it a try. Visit our website for more info and to sign up now.
