On Sunday, we came together for an intercultural celebration of song with newcomers who recently arrived in Toronto. It was such a joy to feel our common humanity through the songs we shared, to tell our stories, to make new friends, and to learn from one another. For the past year at Sing for Joy, we’ve been working alongside refugee shelters and support organizations to create intercultural exchanges of song. These are spaces where all voices are welcome, where our songs tell the stories of the diverse roots and origins of which we come. Some of our newcomers have just arrived in the days before, and others have been here for longer, who help guide the way for those who have just recently arrived. We can’t wait for another opportunity to sing, connect, and share with our ever-growing community.
