Welcoming the Winter Solstice

As we welcome the first day of winter tomorrow, we celebrate the winter Solstice and the return of the light. Traditionally, winter is a time to rest and re-charge for the year ahead, a time of allowing ourselves to slow down, to go within, and to simply just BE. It is also a time to come together in community, to share and appreciate the simple ways of life that sustain and nourish us on the coldest of days. It is a time for singing, for storytelling, and for sharing good company and cheer. Around the world, group singing has always been used as one of the most common ways of braving the darkest days of winter, especially in northern climates. This is why we’re looking forward to our winter season at Sing for Joy, and singing with you all winter long…

Our winter choir season is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to sing with you. This winter, we’ll be sharing a new collection of songs sourced from near and far, from the local to the global. At Sing for Joy, we believe that singing is our birthright, and that all people have the ability to make beautiful and meaningful sound together. This is why we don’t have auditions, and why we welcome every voice, regardless of musical experience. And you simply won’t believe the magic that happens when we join our voices in song.

Sing for Joy is an all-inclusive community choir in the City of Toronto, that gathers each week for the pure joy of singing together. We welcome all voices, and require no singing experience ~ just a heartfelt desire to sing with others in harmony. We are a member of the Ubuntu Choir Network, a global community of choirs who believe that the joy of singing is a universal birthright, and that together, regardless of musical background, we can help improve the world by joining voices in song.

Join us for our 10-week choir season starting this winter. With two locations to choose from, in the east and west parts of Toronto. Visit our choir page for more info and to sign up now.

A Winter Solstice Poem
:

“To go in the dark with the light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight.
And find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is travelled by dark feet and dark wings.”
~ Wendell Berry

Wishing you a beautiful winter solstice, and a joyful holidays!
